What are the versions of SAP Business One?

SAP Business One is operating on a release family product lifecycle with major and minor releases.  Major releases are 2007, 8.8, 9.0, 9.1, 9.2.  The current release is version 9.3.


What is the Maintenance Policy for SAP Business One?

The complete SAP Business One solution includes a maintenance contract, which is in essence an insurance policy for your technology investment.  Annual maintenance is 18% of your total license purchase, and it is billed annually in December.  By purchasing annual maintenance, you ensure access to:

When Does Maintenance on my SAP Business One version end?

SAP has improved their documentation on their maintenance policy for SAP Business One, and it is easier to find the end of mainstream maintenance on a particular product release.

Just because a version is out of maintenance doesn’t mean it will STOP running on the end of mainstream maintenance date.  If you’re up and running fine on a version, you’ll keep running fine after the maintenance date.  Just know that any future enhancements or software bugs will not be fixed in an old version – fixes are made in new releases.


How Does My Hardware Platform Affect My SAP Business One Upgrade?

SAP publishes a Platform Support Matrix for SAP Business One, and it is updated on a regular basis.  This matrix shows the Server Platforms, Client Platforms, Database Platforms and Desktop Platforms that are supported for each version.  Sometimes your server, clients, database or desktops need to be upgraded before an SAP Business One upgrade to a newer version can occur.

Within the platform support matrix are a variety of notes and special instructions.  While SAP Business One MAY run on a server or database that isn’t listed in the matrix, it does not mean you should.  Just because it runs does not mean that it is supported – and if there are any issues or problems in an unsupported platform SAP cannot  help you.  We strongly recommend you choose a server, client, database and desktop platform that is supported and listed in the platform support matrix.


How Do Add-On Products to SAP Business One Affect Upgrade?

Some companies have added complementary solutions to their SAP Business One solution to bring additional features or functionality to the software.  If you are running add-ons for SAP Business One, they are a big consideration for your ability to upgrade.  Most add-on developers are provided an advance version of upcoming SAP Business One releases in order to begin testing compatibility.  But in no way does SAP stop or delay major or minor releases because an add-on provider isn’t ready -- and most add-on providers are working slightly behind SAP’s timetable.  You must make sure that the add-on is compatible with the new release before upgrading your SAP Business One.
